Archive South invites photographers and visual artists to be a part of its first-ever studio residency program. The residency aims to support artists by offering a space for creative growth, an artist stipend, one-on-one sessions with mentors and guest artists for project guidance and artistic technique, and lastly, an opportunity to showcase your work and be a part of a vibrant artist community.

Residency Opportunities

Those who have been selected will be awarded:

An artist stipend of $1,500 USD
Photography studio for use with lighting equipment provided.
One-on-one sessions with mentors and guest artists for project guidance.
An opportunity to exhibit work at an Open Studio event.
Continued support and guidance in post-residency opportunities, such as exhibitions, collaborations, and grants.

Submitting Your Application

BEFORE YOU SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION:

Please read all the details to familiarize yourself with the terms and conditions of the artist residency.
The duration of the residency is 8 weeks.
2-3 artists will be selected.
Submissions open September 1, 2023, 8:00 am CST
The deadline for submissions is September 17, 2023, at Midnight CST. This deadline will not be extended and applications that are submitted after the deadline will not be reviewed.
Most of the residency will be done in-studio with the exception of a few off-site events.
When submitting, select works that best represent your practice.
Images can be shot in any format, using any camera, on film, or digital. We welcome diverse submissions from photographers and visual artists who incorporate, celebrate, or challenge the photographic medium within their practice, including photo collage and experimental photography.
The selected artists will be selected by a panel composed of artists, and arts professionals and will be notified no later than October 2, 2023.
Most Important: Don’t overthink it. As an artist, I understand how daunting applications for residencies, grants, and exhibitions can feel. Just take one step at a time.

ELIGIBILITY:

All photographers, visual artists, and creatives working with the medium of photography are eligible to submit their work.
18 years of age or older is preferred but all ages and skill sets are encouraged to apply.
Applicant must be based in the Nashville Metropolitan Area.
You do not have to be an expert at studio photography to apply for the residency. Just be willing to learn.
We encourage submissions from members of underrepresented groups, and we welcome submissions from gender and sexually-diverse individuals.
